Oh, yeah. And technology will replace teachers in the classroom. Does this break your heart as much as it breaks mine? When I think back to my favorite teacher, Mrs. Maurer, it reminds me why every time I see a wardrobe, I secretly hope the characters of Narnia will jump out. Mrs. Maurer is also the reason I plan on owning a yellow barn cat and a little pug a someday; I’ll name them Milo and Otis. She’s why I crave Rice Krispie treats every afternoon and fear black rabbits. (Darn you, Petro and your razor sharp teeth… No classroom pet should have that much venom running through its veins….)

My 3rd grade teacher was inspiring and motivating, and yes, it would be devastating if a teacher like Mrs. Maurer got replaced by technology in the classroom. But what’s really heartbreaking to me is that people actually believe educators are being swapped out for online learning programs. It’s not that simple. Sure, budget cuts are taking place nationwide, but wake up — no industry is safe. Only those who are able to adapt will keep their jobs. A impactful teacher like Mrs. Maurer would do just fine because she didn’t teach for the money or for the summers off, she taught because it was what she was put on Earth to do. She had passion; and with that passion she possessed the willingness to adjust for the sake of her students.
